Before the carving out of the hill state of Meghalaya from Assam, Shillong, its present day capital, was an idyllic weekend jaunt for the British planter community of Assam. Cool, moist and with a temperature climate throughout the year, hilly Shillong probably reminded those old British folk of the Highlands of Scotland.
Naturally , Shillong has its share of English cottages and colonial buildings amidst the beautiful flower gardens and natural green that the place is famous for. How perfectly wonderful it would be, to spend time in one, with a lot of history and yet as comfortable as a tea cosy ! Heritage North East has one in mind.
Rosaville was built in the year 1935 by the late Raibahadur Kanaklal Barua, a prominent citizen of Assam and one who served as a member of the victory’s Executive Council.
The house belongs to both the sisters Mrs. Usha Barooah and Mrs. Rosa Kamte and was named after his elder daughter , Rosa. A most endearing piece of neo-colonial architecture , Rosaville’s interiors-immaculately appointed with period furniture and numerous bric-a-brac exude the charm and warmth of a very living past.
The accomodation includes 1 Suite, 4 Deluxe Rooms and 2 Standard Rooms.
