50 kms from Aizawl, Mizoram

Located at a distance of 50 kilometers to the south of Aizawl, Mountain Hmuifang at an elevation of 5000 feet above the sea level is still covered with virgin forests reserved since the days of the Mizo chiefs. Built and maintained by the Department of Tourism at the scenic peak of the mountain is Hmuifang Tourist Resort.

The resort was built on the former land of the erstwhile Mizo chief and offers an ideal getaway in the midst of nature. The resort has comfortable accommodation offering 6 double rooms and a cafeteria. The patches of grasslands on the peak are ideal for picnics and outdoor camping. This is also the venue of the annual Anthurium Festival and Thalfavang Kut hosted by the Department of Tourism. Thalfavang Kut is a harvest festival that is usually celebrated in the month of November, after the weeding and various cultural performances are carried out.

Once in Hmuifang one may visit the nearby Mizo villages situated on the slopes. In Hmuifang, Sumsuih, Lamchhip and Chamring villages one can find the typical rural life of the Mizos.

Hmuifang has beautiful cliffs and offer striking views of the bordering hills. For nature lovers the surrounding forests abound with fascinating varieties of flora including rare orchids and wildlife especially avifauna.

Mountain biking, hiking and biodiversity trekking are some of the main activities that adventure seekers can undertake at Hmuifang. Bikes can be found for hire at the Hmuifang Tourist Resort.

How to reach

By road from Aizawl and by regular flight from Kolkata and Guwahati. It is a three hour drive from Aizawl Airport to Hmuifang Resort. One can either stay in the cottages or make shift tents available for hire or comfortably put up at the Hmuifang Tourist Resort.
