Trishna wildlife sanctuary is located 100kms away from Agartala in Belonia. It covers an area of about 163.08sq km. It is 18kms away from the sub-divisional town of Belonia and is connected with Agartala by state highway. The sanctuary has an area of 197.7sq km.
The sanctuary is very rich in its vegetation. It has a numbers of perennial water rivulets, water bodies and grassland. In this sanctuary, there are patches of virgin forests which are rich in rare vegetation. The sanctuary is famous for Bison locally known as "Gaba" and home to several species of "Primates". One species of bamboo, locally known as Kailliai is found in this sanctuary. This bamboo is said to be endemic. The beauty of the sanctuary is enhanced by the Flora and Fauna which soothes every tourist’s eyes.
The forest types of sanctuary are mainly classified into four types. The vegetation of the sanctuary is unique throughout its area. There are number of tree species, herbs, shrubs, climbers, grass etc. there are 230 numbers of tree species, 400 numbers of herbs, 110 numbers of shrubs and 150 numbers of climbers available in the sanctuary. Species having medical values are also found such as Kurcha, Tulsi, Uasak, Sarpaganda, Rudraksha Bel, Chirata, Kalamegh, etc.
The sanctuary is diverse in flora and fauna stock. Some species that are found here are Indian Bison, Spectacle Langur, Hoolock Gibbon, Lalmukh Bandar, Caped Langur, Wild Boar, Wild Cat, Leopard. Birds are also found in the sanctuary such as Pheasant tail Jacana, Red jungle Fowl, White breasted Kingfisher, Indian black Drongo, Tailor bird, Jungle Myna, Parrot, Eagle, Hornbill, Dove etc.
The sanctuary is 97kms from Agartala airport. It is connected by airlines flights with Calcutta, Guwahati and Delhi. The two nearest railway stations are Kumarghat and Dharama Nagar. The sanctuary is about 95 kms away from Agartala by road.
Accommodation is available at Forest Rest House Rajnagar, Van Mahal at Belonia and Revenue Dak Bunglow at Rajnagar.
