Festivity over; Shillong falls silent

The pomp and gaiety that gripped the capital city of Meghalaya for Durga puja along with other parts of the country came to an end on Saturday afternoon as the idols of the goddess of strength were immersed in the waterbody in the outskirt of the city with traditional religious fervour.

The devotees in many places including in Shillong and its Hindu dominated adjoining areas took out huge profession throughout the day on the way to the rivers and water bodies for immersion.

The immersion spots in Shillong turned into a sea of humanity as thousands of people on both sides of the city roads pulled out of their homes to catch a glimpse of the trucks carrying the idols for immersion in the afternoon.
