In a major setback for BJP in Meghalaya seven months ahead of the assembly, the party office in North Garo Hills district refused to open after two functionaries of the party pulled out within a week following the beef controversy.
Party leaders ate believed to have conveyed the crisis to the central leadership suggesting a slew of urgent measures to refurbish the image of the party in the poll bound state.
“We want the central leadership take a concrete and urgent step to deal with the crisis since Congress is striking maximum advantage. We are waiting for the central leadership to step in,”said a party leader after coming out of the close door meeting.
“Nobody is coming to the office after Bachu Marak resigned. We came to the office when Barnard Marak and Bachu Marak were there. Now who will come,” said the party workers who are walking to and fro near the office.
Another party worker said,” the Marak duo pulled huge people to the party. They had huge support. Their exit would be a huge setback for the party.”
