Dimapur

Situated at an elevation of 195 meters above sea level, Dimapur is a unique blend of the ancient with the modern. What was once the capital of the mighty Kachari tribe, Dimapur derives its name from Hidimbaapur, from the Mahabharata era and now an important commercial hub of Nagaland. Reminiscences of the glorious days of the Kachari kingdom from the 13th century can be visible in the ruins of temples, embankments and baths and such ancient relics lie scattered in the heart of this commercial centre.

Ruzaphema on the Dimapur-Kohima road is just five kilometers away and another attraction of Dimapur. Garments—ethnic and modern—await tourists in the bustling colourful markets of Ruzaphema—an ideal haunt for leisurely strolls and recreation. Dimapur wears a festive look during Christmas till the New Year eve. For the food hunters… well, pork is the flavor of all seasons and ethnic food topping every menu!
