The Mahamuni temple or pagoda is located in Manubankul village in south Tripura. The temple has a central shrine and is framed by an extensive grass lawn. The sanctum holds a large mahamuni image which is a small chamber and has a roof covering made up of seven tired roofs. This place traces back to history and it was made during the royal reign. It is a memento of the yesteryears that blinds us together even today to our roots.
Mahamuni pagoda brings into prominence the hardwork of the artisans and the religiousness of the people residing there. Mahamuni pagoda is an ancient Buddhist monastery dominated by the ethnic Chakma, Mog and Barua tribal communities of Tripura. The best time to visit this place is during the month of march-April as because then occurs a famous week long fair. The place holds different amenity centres, shops nearby. The arcades leading to the main shrine have many shops that sell scented candles, incenses, sandals, robes and flowers.
