Kut, the name of festival of the Kuki-Chin and Mizo people in Manipur plays no less role in uniting the people of all sections of the society in the north eastern state. The annual autumnal festival is basically an occasion of prayers for the Almighty for bounteous harvest and prosperity. The three colourful tribes display their age old rich culture, tradition and performance in the much-vaunted festival which falls on November 1 every year marking an end to the harvest season. Precisely, the entire platform harnesses peace and harmony among the diverse ethnic communities of the state.
A number of groups in the princely state call it Chavang-Kut or Khodou where the villagers find it an occasion to celebrate their food stock after a period of back breaking toil. Merry making, feasting mark the festival where tourists take delight of the delicious traditional dishes of the three promising communities. This is apart from the traditional folk songs and dances.
Just before the commencement of the occasion, the tribals keep their houses clean. Then they would will contribute to celebrate occasion through the priest whom they call Thempu. Festivity grips the people of Imphal even a week ahead of the celebrations. People belonging to other communities come and share the festivity in the capital where the festival is centrally celebrated.
